e-Communication end of year blog

The end of sophomore year is here. I had a great time in video production. I had always wanted to learn to make some great videos and I achieved that goal.  Now I can edit, film and create stunning videos at a professional level in advanced programs like premier pro and final cut pro. But video production was about more than making great content it is also about Collaboration, Communication, Project management. and Leadership.

In video production I had to work with a partner or a group for almost all my projects. Good collaboration skills are very important to have a successful group. A group with the best editors and cinematographers doesn't mean they will work together well. I learned that groups are not always going to be perfect and sometimes you will have to work through it wether at home by yourself or in class togeather.

Communication should never be an issue when working in a group. But I have had problems with my groups with that. My groups had a hard time communicating group jobs, film schedules, ideas, ect. It is important to communicate in a group because it can change the outcome of a video. I am generally good at communicating my ideas and opinions to others. I need to work on considering other peoples feelings because apparently the truth hurts some peoples feelings.

Project management is one of most useful skills we used in e-Communication. Most jobs require teamwork and collaboration but without good project management skills a project will never get done. Project management in our last group did not go very well. We had a few "difficulties" at the start of the project and lost about a week of time to film. When we started filming we had no storyboard and script with us. So my group did not do very well. I am generally good at project management and using my time effectively but it is a whole new story when you are trying to work with multiple more people.

Leadership is bad when you have too much, but is also bad when you don't have any leadership. I learned that it takes more than one person to lead a group. When you have multiple leaders on your team nothing will get done sometimes. When you have no leaders on your team nothing will get done also. I was in two groups for projects where we had no leaders,  one barely made the deadline, the other group didn't even get close to finishing. With what I learned I am going to have to take charge in my next group because I have learned my lesson.

Sophomore Year was great. I am exited to spend two hours in video next year. Although I am great at video class I can't wait to take my skills to the next level.
